Interior designers are creative people who enjoy solving problems and who are able to visualize three-dimensionally. A flair for design, combined with the applicable technologies and construction methods is an integral part of the qualification (AutoCAD and Revit). Interior designers and decorators are independent thinkers and innovators. They create inspiring, functional, socially responsible and aesthetic designs for private residential, corporate, public and exhibition spaces by using colour, architectural design and decor. .

  • Aspects of the Building Industry
  • Government Departments
  • Décor shops and retail chain stores
  • Manufacturers of textiles, furniture, etc.
  • Stylists at publishers, magazines, specialty photographers
  • Own Business – Interior designers and decorators are especially able to start as entrepreneurs on any level.
  • Traders: Large department stores, paint shops, suppliers of curtaining and upholstering materials, furnishings, carpets, etc.

  • Higher Diploma in Interior Decorating and Design (NQF level 7) - 3 years full time Registered by the Department of Higher Education and Training, Registration number: 2001/HE07/001

EXPERIENTIAL HOURS

First Year:
Total compulsory hours: 80
Experiential hours must be completed by performing private work for clients/businesses.

Second Year:
Total compulsory hours: 240
Experiential hours must be completed by performing private work for clients/businesses.

Third Year:
Total compulsory hours: 80
Students must complete 80 hours by performing private work for clients/businesses.
